If you’ve come to the realization that you need to hire a roofer, you may be wondering how to sort the good from the bad.
If you’re among the local homeowners that still have a Yellow Pages lying around the house, you’ve probably noticed that there are pages upon pages of listings for roofing companies.
Or, if you pull out your trusty laptop and start with a Google search, you’re also likely to find yourself with pages upon pages of results.
How do you know which roofer to choose?
For his blog, we wanted to address some of the things you should look for.
Local is always best
If you need to hire a contractor you’re always going to do better when you hire a locally owned and operated firm. Yes, you can call a national chain or a franchise, but when a company is locally owned and operated, you’re likely to receive a much more personalized level of care. You’re also going to get more personalized service. Why? Because local companies see their clients as neighbors, not simply a line-item on the monthly profit and loss statement.
Denver’s Best Roofers is a local company that’s staffed by local workers.
Do some research
Don’t just hire the first guy who comes knocking on your door. Your roof is among the most expensive (and important) parts of your home and as such, you’ll want to hire a contractor who is experienced and adept.
Do some research on the company. How long have they been around? What does their online presence look like? Do they have a Yelp or Google+ page? What have prior clients had to say about their experience in working with this company? If a roofer has a Yelp page that’s filled with one-star reviews, this is probably a company you’ll want to stay away from. Those reviews are there for a reason!
Ask if they’re licensed and insured.
We can’t stress this enough. When you hire a roofing company in Denver they should be licensed and insured. You’ve likely heard countless horror stories about people who have hired unlicensed workers in hopes of saving a few bucks. This is always a mistake.
We’ll say it again.
Hiring an unlicensed/uninsured contractor is always a mistake.
Why? The reasons are numerous and include (but aren’t limited to) not having any guarantee the work will be completed, not getting a guarantee that the work will be done properly, not having any guarantees about workmanship or warranties and lastly, you have no guarantee they won’t just take your money and disappear.
