The town was initially founded as a settlement in the mid-1860s; that settlement, which was initially known as Pine Grove, changed its name to Parker in 1882. The reason for the name change was because the largest landowners (brothers) were both named Parker.
Historians say the railroad came to the area later that same year, and it provided rail service between Parker, Denver and Colorado Springs. Since the brothers were adamant that the railroad would come through the center of the town, the Parker brothers sold their right-of-way to ensure that railroad would connect at Parker Station, which would be located in the town’s center.
The demographics of the town, which were last tallied during the 2010 census, note that Parker is home to nearly 24,000 residents and approximately 8,000 households. At the time of the census, roughly 6,500 families called Parker, CO home.
The median age is 31 years, and the median household income is roughly $74,000; the median household income for a family was recorded at approximately $77,500.
Residents say that Parker’s climate, it’s more than 300 days of sunshine and its proximity to the Denver Metropolitan area make it a wonderful place to live and raise a family.
