About Littleton Colorado

Littleton, CO is part of the Denver, Aurora Lakewood Metropolitan area and it’s estimated to be home to nearly 42,000 residents. Data shows this makes Littleton the 20th most populous municipality in the Rocky Mountain State. The history of Littleton dates back to the mid-1800s, and it’s among the cities that was founded during the Pike’s Peak Gold Rush. Not only did the gold rush bring fortune seekers to the area, it also brought farmers and merchants, as well.

The city is named after Richard Sullivan Little, an engineer who was initially from New Hampshire, who made his way to Colorado to help work on irrigation systems. He eventually brought his wife out and from New Hampshire and they decided to make this part of Colorado their home. The rest, they say, is history. The Littles, long with their neighbors, built a flour mill in the late 1860s, which helped provide an economic base for the community for years to come.2010 census data shows that the city is home to more than 18,000 households, 27 percent of which had children under the age of 18 living at home. Nearly half of the city is comprised of married couples and the median age is 41.3 years. Data also indicates the median household income is approximately $54,500, while the median income for a family is just shy of $75,000. The Littleton Symphony Orchestra, the Littleton Chorale and the Littleton Museum are among the city’s most popular tourist attraction for people who are interested in learning more about the local arts community. The city is also hosts an annual community celebration called Western Welcome Week. The event was first started in the latter part of the 1920s and it includes more than three dozen events that benefit many of the local civic and charitable organizations.
