It’s currently believed that more than 150,000 people call Lakewood, CO home.

The city was incorporated in the late 1960s, but at that point, it was named Jefferson City. The name was changed shortly thereafter because residents were overwhelmingly against being called “Jefferson City,” as they felt it would be confused with existing communities in Missouri and Colorado.Lakewood is located approximately 61 miles north-northwest of Colorado Springs and it sits just west of Denver. Government officials estimate it encompasses about 44 square miles of land. Residents note the area has both warm and hot summers along with snowy and mild winters.
