About Golden Colorado
The community of Golden, Colorado is located close to Clear Creek, which can be found at the base of the Front Range portion of the Rocky Mountains.
Much like other communities in Northern Colorado, it too was founded during the Pike’s Peak Gold Rush. The mining camp, which was initially set up in the late 1850s, was initially called Golden City in honor of a man named Thomas Golden.

Golden was a Georgia-born miner who was among the earliest prospectors of the area currently known as Jefferson County, CO.
What most people don’t know is that Golden City was initially known as the capital of the Territory of Colorado, but in 1867 the capital was moved about a dozen miles east, to the area that’s now known as Denver.
At the time Golden City was founded, it was a leading political and economic center of the region. At one point, it was a bustling regional center of industry and trade, and during its heyday it boasted three fully operational flour mills.
Today, Golden, Colorado is home to more than 18,000 people. It’s also home to a variety of museums and theatres.
Residents say they like living in Golden, CO because it’s so close to all of the wonderful things that Northern Colorado has to offer. Between its proximity to the mountains, hiking trails and downtown Denver, it’s surprising that more people haven’t chosen to call this part of CO their home.
