About Castle Rock Colorado

Castle Rock is the most populous municipality of Douglas County, Colorado and as of the most recent census, it was estimate the population hovers somewhere around 49,000. Records show it encompasses about 35 square miles of land.

It’s located at the midpoint between Colorado Springs and Denver; Castle Rock is also part of the Denver Metropolitan Area.


Before Castle Rock became Castle Rock, the area surrounding the region was inhabited by the Cheyenne and Arapaho people, which occupied the land between the South Platte and Arkansas Rivers.

The town was officially founded in the mid-1800s and it initially consisted of a handful of buildings for gold prospectors, cowboys and workers. The community became increasingly active in the late 1800s and early 1900s due to its active quarrying industry.

Historians note that a large number of Swedish immigrants settled in Castle Rock to work in its quarries.
